I'd like to go back and try a few other things on the menu however my first experience at Lucky Dill was just ok. The food wasn't bad at all (I got a chicken ceasar wrap) but it seemed expensive for what it was. They've recently updated their menu so there are a ton of options and I'm excited to go back and try something new. The oudside seating is nice to enjoy downtown St. Pete. I'm looking forward to updating this review sometime soon. In the end, dont pass up Lucky Dill if you're in the area but don't seek it out either.

I grew up in a jewish neighborhood in the Bronx. I knew from black and white cookies, tongue sandwiches, and gefeltie fish (brined whitefish meatballs). One of the cherished meals from childhood is an all beef kosher dog with relish, a potato latke with applesauce, and a Dr. Brown's cream soda. Lucky Dill is a competent approximation of those early meals, but with less Hasids. The reuben cuban is a feast - all of the sandwiches are. These folks operate in the classic tradition of overwhelming meatbombs on bread. Potato pancakes are small but flavorful, and served with the appropriate toppings. I tried the sampler, which was a knish, two latkes, and some cheese blintzes, and almost went into a starch-induced coma, but in a good way. Also, I hear that the delivery service is fantastic. Growing up, we always called Florida the elephant burial ground of New York City - it was where our elders went to die. Plenty of them came to St. Pete - maybe it was for a taste of home.

"Do you want to get fries," asked Wook. "Nah," I said. (waiting for sammich and noticed fries in the window) "Hi. Can I please have an order of fries," I requested. Oh and they were good. Hot too. Tons of ketchup. Wook and I are great at splitting food and this portion was perfect! Turkey Club (next time add Swiss...). The service was good; smiles all around. The place was clean. The weather (we sat outside) was perfect. The noise across the street of the workers trimming the trees was entirely too loud, but the dude we'll refer to as Mr. Arms didn't suck to look at. Good deli. I'll go there again. I suggest the same to you. Get the fries... (PS: Melting Pot date didn't work out... Eh, it happens.)

Great location, young cool crowd, pretty good food. A tad bit pricey for deli food, but not too outrageous. Being a vegetarian, the options weren't fantastic, but the California wrap was good for what it was. I'd go again.

Good sandwich place, go before or after lunch rush. This place gets packed.

In town overnight partying, and the next morning calls for a big breakfast. Hungry as can be, I yelled for yelp. It gave us a couple of options, none sounding too good, we stuck with Lucky Dill Deli. The place is nice in size, with plenty of seating both inside and out. Having grown up around many delis I found a similar vibe here. However the food itself when arrived was nothing too amazing. A friend and I ordered two sandwiches to split; a turkey sandwich and a turkey pastrami. The turkey itself was a bit dry, however the turkey pastrami was delicious. The sandwiches are pretty stacked up with meat and I turned out satisfied. Not being from around the area I didnt have too many options, the Saturday market was open but the parking situation was a nightmare.

Yummy sandwich, generous with meat portion. Enjoy outside dining

Very New York style. The meat was very fresh and almost sweet tasting in the ham & turkey club I ordered. Prices aren't bad either. I almost couldn't get the sandwich into mouth. This is a great lunch stop and they don't take long to get your order out.

We enjoyed lunch there while visiting relatives who are big fans. I thought the NY theme was interesting but being from the North I guess I couldn't appreciate it the way someone would if they had never been to a deli above the mason dixon line. The music was good but loud, the service was friendly but the prices were a bit high. Overall a good stop for lunch.

I don't know how you can manage to screw up breakfast, but this place did it. Greasy eggs, blah toast, a mound of bland grits and coffee that came from a Nescafe time machine in the corner. Try your luck elsewhere.

Came on a Saturday and it was busy so I thought the place would taste good with the amount of people standing in line. I ordered the Italian and asked it it could be toasted. The gave me a panino pressed Cubanesque style sandwich. If I didn't know, I would have thought it was a Cuban. It tasted fair but wasn't all that great because I expected lettuce, tomato, and all that salady stuff in the middle. My friend hated his Ruben. He said it tasted funny. My husband loved his half-pound Angus burger. I wasn't too impressed with it because it was messy.

I think I would have enjoyed the Lucky Dill more if I hadn't spent all of breakfast trying to determine exactly how they had cooked my food. The Lucky Dill is a medium sized deli/restaurant with plenty of seating (including outdoor spots), a plentiful menu, decor pulled from 50+ years of NY memorabilia and an enviable location on a Central Ave corner. The food is as plentiful as the menu and the coffee is decent (and bottomless). I have to disclose, though, that I cannot quite figure out how they managed to get the potatoes in my corned beef hash so mushy when the corned beef itself and the onions were cooked beyond recognition. Now that wouldn't put me off going back to the Lucky Dill again. Everything else was great...but that hash was a flippin' miracle of science.

I used to come here when I thought I was a young "hip" teenager when I first got my license with my friends. We would ride downtown to visit Saturday Morning Market. A market they used to have on the streets right outside the restaurant on Saturday mornings. I thought I was cool to eat breakfast here, but looking back I was rather dumb for spending my money on overpriced breakfast. Don't get me wrong, it is a tasty place to venture into. Kind of reminds me of a trendy place that should be wedged into a major city. Black and white photos on the walls and funky ceiling fans. They have a big selection for a deli. As for breakfast, I always left still hungry. Their portion sizes aren't the biggest. If you order pancakes and bacon, be prepared to only get 2 greasy pieces of bacon, and about a pancake and a half. Not enough to fill you up.. but you'll be paying close to 10 dollars for this. As for lunch, they do have great salads and wraps. Try the Waldorf salad, it contains pineapple.. pretty good. There is patio seating outside, and they'll call you up to the counter when your food is ready. If you come for dinner, remember that they close kind of early, around 5 or 6. If you're looking for parking, the street has meters, and there's also the Baywalk parking garage a few blocks away. Good place to try once.

Yes, great sandwiches, but at what price? Would you normally pay $11 for a sandwich that doesn't come with any sides? What are we in Whole Foods / aka "Whole Paycheck"? :) I really do think their food and variety is great and they have happy hour specials too - but you just can't justify more than 1-2 times paying so much for a sandwich. My vote if you do visit is go for the "corned beef / pastrami" skyscraper - good luck finishing that and bring your credit card :)

Ate here with some friends after going to the Dali Museum. Let's just say it's the biggest sammy I have yet to get in the bay area. I got the corned beef and pastrami, it was gigantic. The ingredients all tasted fresh, and the meat was tender. the bread was pretty good too. It was accompanied by a side of potato salad that wasn't too shabby either. Another bonus - the people watching....I never knew St. Pete was a refuse for Gutter Punks and street kids, but apparently I was misinformed. I saw this one kid talk to himself for like 5 min, and then he walked across the street and started doing push ups on a bench....totally random, but maybe that's just me. I'm not sure why I just called him a kid either, because he had a beard....anyways, it was entertaining to say the least.

I have to say, this restaurant serves good tasting food. The location is great and it is nice to sit outside. Unfortunately it stops there. I just spent two weeks in St. Petersburg and ate at this restaurant several times (primarily due to location.) The management is NOT accommodating to restrictive diets. Shame on them for this. If you are on a carb-free diet look elsewhere. Although they have plenty of variety of food, they refuse to substitute. I ordered an omelet that came with potatoes and toast. I requested that they substitute the potatoes and toast with fresh fruit. "We don't substitute, you can order fruit for an additional cost." was the response. Really??? I am asking for one item to be substituted for two items that you are offering...So it cost me $15 for an omelet and fruit cup. As I decided to get over that situation, I visited again on our last day at 11:30 a.m. I ordered a lox and bagel sandwich for my husband and was told that breakfast was over and they could not make that. Now, they make sandwiches for lunch, they offer lox all day long and there were still bagels available. Again, where is the customer service???? So, I had to order lox, bagel, cream cheese and capers all separately and make my own sandwich. We also waited 30 minutes for that combo. That was the nail in the coffin. The management sucks here as they are not interested in satisfying their customers. I'm done. Wont be back.

New York type deli in St. Pete. Great place to stop by, grab lunch and relax. Sandwiches were juicy and salads were good too.

We were downtown to see a Tampa Bay Rays spring training game. We decided to take a stroll around town and stumbled onto Lucky Dill. We were VERY impressed. The perfect spot for lunch. We enjoyed a delicious chicken pesto wrap and real homemade chicken noodle soup. I wish we would have had time to come back another day. Highly recommended!

A pretty decent deli, tons of selection. The sandwiches are piled high with plenty of meat. I like their Rueben and the chili dogs are pretty good. I would have given this 3 stars but the kitchen is a bit slow, and you can smell cigars from the cigar bar upstairs which you can go directly to from the spiral staircase. I think even if you wanted to own both of these businesses, I would definitely separated the cigar bar and food concepts.

This is a great place for those with ADD. The menu is widely varied, and most items are typical of a New York deli. Good spot for a quick working lunch, but not the place to go if you need to impress.

This used to be my husband and my favorite breakfast spot in St.Pete, but not anymore! Last time was so bad I gave them back their wrap and demanded my money back. I ordered the Mediterranean wrap without feta and had them add avocado, which of course they charged for. Total was $9 and change for a wrap only. I get the wrap which has I/2 a slice of of avo on each side, really? It supposed to have hummus on it. It was spread on the wrap like it was mayo. I went inside and asked for more and the cook, who acted like they owned the place, said I had to pay more for that. Totally ridiculous. It had like two olives, a few pieces of lettuce, tomato, and cucumbers. I was soo mad. Over $9!! I told the to keep it and give me my money back. My husband had already eaten his bkfst, which was bacon and eggs and said it sucked. Ended up at the farmers market and had an awesome breakfast! My husband had wished he would have waited.

We hit them up on our trip to St. Pete twice because yeah, they're that good. Even with lots of foodie treats and interesting things to eat nearby we had to do them twice! Very impressed with the value too... you'll not get that here in Orlando. In fact, once home, we went back to two or three of our favorite local deli haunts just to compare and none did, price and size wise. We Love you Lucky Dill. Super awesome and when are you coming to Orlando, please?

We stopped in here while walking around st. Petes... Decided to go in here. Supposedly known for their big deli sandwiches? Maybe because I'm from metro Detroit and the delis are out of this world. We order our food, and the sandwiches were super small and just ok. I was still hungry after eating a full sandwich (and I'm on the small/average size with a normal appetite) There's absolutely nothing special about this place. The service was lacking and the bathroom was dirty.

We stopped by here on First Friday (or last Friday)...whatever the event is called, while looking for a place not stuffed with hipsters and transients. We both had sandwiches. We were really impressed at the quality, and no we were not drunk like the other 60 year old hippies in the crowd. Overall this is what is would expect from a place that makes paninis. The meats was good and the toasting was done perfectly. We had the chips for sides, so I cannot comment on other sides. The beer selection was OK, with very limited craft beer. For the place being full of drunken hippies the service was remarkably fast and efficient.

We went to this establishment for a bachelorette brunch. The food was delicious and they served bottomless mimosas for $9.99... It's a great deal; however if they could just get their service and employee attitude adjusted, this place would be amazing. Did I mention we saw a family change a baby on a table and not one employee said anything? I would suggest you ask them to clean the table before you sit, as i did warn another customer after I shared the pic I took!!

I love this downtown deli! The meatball sub was so tender and juicy. Can I go get another right now? But seriously I really enjoyed myself and on Sundays they have mimosa's and you really can't go wrong. After a night of drinking this is a great place to cure that hangover w a delicious sandwich and drink. Will be back for sure!

I have stopped in once before on a weekday for lunch and was not super impressed. I had a turkey sandwich which is fine but nothing fabulous to brag about and I did not feel it was worth the money. Today I stopped in for some breakfast after walking around downtown St. Pete and not being able to find many Saturday breakfast spots. I still don't like how you walk up to order and the menus are on the wall, but besides that, the service was great. It was Saturday and the farmer's market was right outside. We sat on the patio and did some people watching. I wasn't very hungry and was pleased they had a cheap option of scrambled eggs, cuban toast, and cheesy grits for only $2.99. It was a perfect size. My friend ordered their healthy breakfast platter and had scrambled eggs with peppers and onions, wheat toast, and fruit. We both enjoyed our meals while enjoying the beautiful weather. The servers checked up on us frequently. The restroom was clean even though there was a long line from the farmer's market customers coming in to use it. They were advertising their Sunday Jazz Brunch which has a larger breakfast menu. I think if I came back for breakfast I will definitely need to check out their Sunday menu.

Stopped here for breakfast. This place had some AWESOME scrambled eggs w/ cheese, but besides that everything else was pretty forgettable. I ordered buttered toast but I swear the "butter" was straight oil...GROSS!! The potatoes were cooked all the way either. I won't be back.

Ordered in lunch with coworkers and we were not impressed. I ordered a Reuben and it was not at all like the great and gigantic Reuben's I've had from the Lucky Dill in Palm Harbor - boo. Bread was greasy and a little burned, sandwich was considerably smaller than the PH location sandwich (I had no problem finishing it - usually I bring 1/2 home from the PH restaurant), and the corned beef tasted different (hard to describe but more processed tasting and texture was weird). Coworkers greek salads looked boring and not huge portions. Back to our old reliable Lonni's for delivery after this experience.

Took two bites of my California wrap and found a broken piece of used toothpick inside the wrap. I couldn't imagine that it was just sitting in the sandwich so I double checked to see if the tips of the toothpicks used to secure the wrap were still attached and there they were. I brought this to the attention of the manager who told me "there are thousands of toothpicks back there so It could easily happen." Save yourself a trip to the emergency room and skip dining at this place. Pardon me while I go barf.

  • Monte V.

Sub-par for the price. The corned beef sandwich was incredibly dry, half the size it should have been. The cold cheese didn't melt even a little - which paired well with the cold fries. It's not like it was busy, it was 12:40 on a Saturday afternoon & very few customers. The service was the only redeeming factor, that's why they got 2 stars.

    (2)
  • Julie G.

Not the WOW factor of the one in Palm Harbor. No wait service, you order at the counter. Limited menu compared to other location. My sandwich was good, but nothing out of this world. Pasta salad tasted old and gloppy/sticky. I won't return to this location with so many other awesome options in St. Pete.

When your big hunger needs big food, this is the place to go! I ordered a wrap and my husband the biggest rueben on the planet and we split and shared. Sitting outside exposes guests to all the sirens and horns from traffic but that's what you get in an urban downtown. Don't like it, go back to Sebring!

Been many times and it was always ok and service was fine, but I went with my Mo and daughter on Sunday and they have made improvements!! Sunday is now Jazz Brunch Sunday (no live music tho). They have an extra menu with several benedict offerings - fried green tomato with avocado - YUM!! each Jazz brunch menu item comes with a bloody mary or mimosa. Not sure if you can buy the drinks separate or not. They don't have choices of vodka, etc, but they are tasty with several hot sauce choices, olives, celery and a friendly bartender. The service was amp'ed up too and it was pretty packed. They have indoor and outdoor dining, outdoor includes a doggie dining area. Go check it out and ENJOY!!

I took a friend there since she wanted "American" food. She ordered the chicken salad sandwich and we split an order of fries, I got a Ruben. The fries were cold with no flavor. The chicken salad was bland white looking pile of mush and had no taste. She sent it back and ordered instead the Pastrami, which is displayed so beautifully on the menu. She ordered it on toasted bread. After waiting 10-15 minutes the Pastrami came out on untoasted bread. The fries were at least better this time though they did require a liberal dosing of pepper to give them some flavor. The Pastrami sandwich came back tasting of over toasted bread. My friend was denied credit back for her bad sandwich(es). This woman, who is an exec with a National Company, whose leadership comes into town frequently, will never take anyone there, have them cater their lunches in (Lonni's is catering their lunch tomorrow), nor will she recommend it to anyone ever. My sandwich was ok. An update: later in afternoon the owner, Ken, called my friend and me finding out what happened and how he can improve. He credited my friend her meal. That's a good thing. I'll give them another shot. RB

Had a decent Greek salad here (though I wasn't expecting beets and potato salad at the bottom of it. Apparently it's a regional thing?) Beer selection is nice and the location is great on a beautiful day if you sit outside. The sandwiches looked fantastic and I gazed at them longingly, but opted for the slightly healthier salad. (Until I found the tater salad...) All in all, fine.

First time here and come on, a free champagne with brunch? Never seen that before! But again, I hardly got out when I lived in Orlando and Atlanta. We decided to hangout in downtown St. Pete and browse a few places. Walked along and found Lucky and decided to head on in. Debated to try something new and wanted to go with the Eggs Benedict with fried green tomatoes and avocado.....but since I never had eggs Benedict's and was told how it comes out, I passed and chose shrimp and grits. This dish was different from others I had. I could barely tell there were grits in the dish! Super thick and cheesy, diced sausage and succulent shrimp. Loved the slivers of bell peppers too. Yeah, so the grits, some places you can really tell there are grits in them. Here, it was like they just melted right at the touch of my tongue. Not sure how I felt about that either. I kind of like feeling the grits, but it was still delicious. My fiancé had to help me finish, a heaping portion! Enjoyed my free mimosa too. Will go back to order off the lunch menu. Best part, enjoying our meal out front of the restaurant, on a hot sunny day. Just the cherry on top

So after living in the St. Petersburg area for over twenty years. I decided to give this place a try finally, since I've recently relocated to the downtown area. I happened to be craving a "traditional" club sandwhich. According to Yelp, The Lucky Dill had them. I looked at the restaurants website and indeed it said it was a traditional triple decker club. After ordering and getting my order home and opened the container I was surprised to find a a stacked deli sandwich between TWO pieces of soggy toast! After calling to find out how I received a bait and switch sandwich I was told they recently changed their menu but failed to update their website win the changes. I'm thinking they should have left well enough alone, as this isn't a CLUB sandwich,in any sense of the word, but rather a plain turkey deli sandwich, with NO cheese at all! I doubt I will try this place again. I had such high hopes!

Major disappointment. I assumed that this was the same as the Lucky Dill Deli in Palm Harbor. Not even close. The bread on the sandwiches was dry and fell apart. Sandwiches not as big. Worst pastrami I have ever eaten.

We were visiting St. Pete today and spotted The Lucky Dill. We were very excited because we're big fans of a restaurant called Lucky Dill in Palm Harbor and thought that they were related but sadly they aren't. While lunch was ok it didn't hold a candle to the Palm Harbor Lucky Dill. The matzo ball soup was good.

My boyfriend and I came here for lunch and were highly disappointed. I ordered a club sandwich and he got a Cuban, it took 30+ minutes to get our food. The club had pieces of bread smaller than a fifty cent coin, and the bacon was all burnt and disgusting too. My boyfriends Cuban was mediocre at best but was edible which is the reasoning behind 2 stars. Won't be going back.

From someone who working in a deli kitchen myself, I was highly disappointed when I ordered the chicken strip platter which was $9.00. The platter consisted of 3 poorly cooked Tyson frozen chicken strips and 15 fries. I was more than upset to receive this especially for the price that I paid. The food was cold and the chicken was beyond dry. I will never again return to this place of business, because I could of made that at home and would've been a lot happier. From a customer service point of view the ladies at the register were rude and had the attitude of not really wanting to be there. The servers were amongst themselves talking.

This place was recommended to me as a good lunch spot, so I thought id give it a try. It was super busy, which I took as a good sign. I went to the counter and ordered the pulled pork sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries - two of my favorites. I definitely agree with other reviewers - it's overpriced. $12 for my meal, although I did get a free drink for "ordering a new item." For it being as busy as it was, my food did come quickly (1 star added there) and the staff was extremely friendly (another star). However - the food wasn't the best. The menu says they use their own BBQ sauce on the pulled pork... I don't think they understand what BBQ sauce is. The sandwich tasted exactly like a sloppy joe - not good. Also it was plain, not even cheese on it. My sweet potato fries were cut in big wedges, and I got only like 5 of them. They were so big, when I chewed the middle it wasn't really even cooked (very chewy) and under flavored. Only a little salt on top. Fried doesn't equal flavor. Maybe would give this place another chance if I got one of their more "classic" items rather than something new, however I doubt I'll be back.

Stopped in for an early lunch yesterday before continuing on shopping for some office furniture. When we walked in, I felt as if I was transported back to a deli in New York City. Tight spaces, no privacy for conversation, and a loud atmosphere. I won't say this was super great for me, but I sure felt the longing for home...sigh. We ordered a Skyscraper to split. It certainly lives up to its name. This sandwich was huge with pastrami, corned beef and cole slaw w/ the Russian dressing on the side. This sandwich is very tasty and having half of it was more than enough for one meal. I also had a side of Chili, which was pretty good. It wasn't too spicy which for me is a personal disappointment but the seasoning was good. I had no issue with ordering at a counter and sitting waiting for someone to bring me our meal. To me it's better than waiting up at the counter for the meal to be prepped. The wait staff was nice; they constantly came around and cleared tables but were not so obtrusive. I'd like to try this for breakfast sometime...my favorite meal of the day(followed by lunch and dinner, of course).

I wouldn't bother with the Lucky Dill; their sandwiches are merely so-so, and there are far better lunch options nearby. However, my one star rating reflects the attitudes and practices of the staff (the food would only merit three stars from me). My fiancé was the only customer in the place and accidentally dropped a tightly clipped wad of bills (several hundred dollars worth) from his pocket while paying. He walked out the door but then walked immediately back in after realizing-- while one employee scurried away and wouldn't look him in the eye. He walked up to another and asked for his money clip; their response was to say that he shouldn't expect to get it all back, and they then handed him a small bill and walked away. When we called and asked to speak with a manager, she said there was nothing she could do about it since we couldn't prove anything. We are never going back.

YOU SHOULD READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO HERE. My son and I have eaten breakfast here three times. The last time was this past Sunday. the first two times were so-so, but it's close to the Marina where we live. This time we found that the quality control of the kitchen is poor, and the front attendants were not much better. Here is exactly what happened, without embellishment: My 10 year old son received rancid bacon with his pancake, and sadly he did not notice it until he had eaten a couple bites, as it had a bit of syrup from pancakes on it. We showed it to the counter attendant, and stood there while they showed it to their chef. The chef pretty much shrugged his shoulders like it was "no big deal," didn't apologize for the oversight, and dropped it like it was commonplace - as did the counter attendants. Mistakes happen, and it is all in how they are handled in a situation like this that prompted this review. It was unbelievable. Nothing was offered as to a refund, etc., and we didn't ask for anything. I was in no mood to argue, we had already paid (you pay first at the counter at the Lucky Dill), and it just wasn't worth getting into a situation in front of my son. He later became ill, and breakfast came up. In addition, at the Lucky Dill, the pricing is just not a bargain for what you get. For the same $ you can go to Beverly's on St. Pete Beach (about a 12 minute drive from the Lucky Dill) and get a GREAT, FRESH breakfast that includes toast, amazing home fries or grits, two eggs cooked any way, three strips of bacon and home made preserves for $4.95 - its called the "Eye Opener." AND you get fantastic, cheery table service. We are not going to risk going here again, and we will spend 12 minutes and $1.00 in gas to experience greatness at Beverly's. Pass on this place and find a better breakfast elsewhere. I think that some reviewers don't read one star reviews because it seems that many one star reviewers have a beef with the owner, were ex-employees, etc. I can ASSURE you that we have given this place a fair and honest try, and it deserves ONE STAR at best, period. And yep, I'm a bit upset with the lack of caring shown by their employees.

This Lucky Dill Deli is now little more than an overpriced sandwich shop. When it first opened it had a huge menu, better food and more style. Now it has a chain restaurant feel. The menu has less options. You pay the price of what a full meal would cost at most places and just receive a sandwich. Sides are extra. We only visit because they are open for breakfast and generally serve lunch during that time. On our last trip we both had a turkey bacon wrap. It was okay. The bacon was thin and you didn't really taste it much. When we got towards the bottom of the wrap there was a large chunk of honey mustard that had settled and probably would have been good if spread throughout the wrap. We only tasted it on the last bite and then it was too much. If other restaurants are available, I recommend going elsewhere. One of my favorite restaurants Crowley's is a few doors down to the East. Go there instead and you will Thank me.

One of the few restaurants open for breakfast in Downtown St Petersburg on a Sunday morning (at least that we could find, after walking for blocks). It is a decent breakfast, cheap and filling. Scrambled eggs, toast and bacon, with a fruit salad on the side was about $7. The bacon tasted microwaved, so would avoid that going forward. Everything else was A-OK. Being that we were here for the Grand Prix of St Pete, Lucky Dill served its purpose of feeding us for cheap so we could avoid the greasy stands inside the race.

This is a solid place for lunch! Sure, it's cramped in there, but it's a diner! Go to New York and you'll see. And it's always busy, so that should tell you something. Very good cubano!

I wish I had a lot to say about the Lucky Dill. It was on my "to-do" list for a while just because it always looks busy. Well, lunch was pretty cheap overall and that's probably the highlight. My sandwich was fine, though it wasn't especially memorable. The rest of my group had mixed feelings. There was a Mediterranean wrap with barely any hummus and (what seemed to be) an okay Greek salad. I don't have a reason to be back but it wasn't terrible. If someone suggested it, I would probably still push for a different place, but not complain if it was the final decision. One random observation - the plates used here remind me of Steak n' Shake for some reason.

Solid breakfast fare... The corn beef hash is made homemade and fresh. Very cheap... Service is fine, the ambience is that of the deli. What do you expect for five dollars? I love it.

My friends and I stopped by for breakfast on a Saturday or Sunday a little while ago. We sat outside. We were given our menus right away. Well we sat for a while expecting someone to take our order, but no luck. As it turns out, you have to go in and order. How should we have known? I ended up asking if we had to wait or order... We had just some eggs and coffees. You do have to pour your own beverages. The food was just okay. Nothing spectacular. Maybe if I knew "the drill", my experience would've been better. Honestly, I do prefer places with servers, especially if you have to go inside to order.

  • Ames M.

They get 2 stars because they have authentic corned beef hash. If I have a craving for it I get take out and hurry back home. I used to go here once or twice a week, but they've gone downhill and except for the hash, I'd rather go anywhere else Downtown than here. It's sad because they were once one of the great spots downtown.

I agree with a previous reviewer, I am not too keen on places where you order at a counter, like a fast food joint and then having it delivered to you but here we go. My wife and I went here for breakfast on a recommendation from the hotel that we were staying at for the weekend. When we got there the staff was cordial, greeted us as we came in the door and gave us the low down on how the ordering process worked. The girl who took our order at the counter was very nice, had casual conversation and joked a little with us which is a breath of fresh air as no a days they take your order like a robot and move you on. I saw "house made" corned beef hash and my searching through the menu stopped immediately. My wife order the healthy sunrise which she was happy with but it is difficult to mess up cooking scrambled eggs, toast and fresh sliced fruit but it was a good breakfast overall. The corned beef hash, being an aficionado of this delicacy for breakfast, I was not impressed. It was more potatoes and onions cooked with a little bit of corned beef added in. Admittedly the corned beef was cooked perfectly, tender, great flavor and not overly salted which is usually the first thing that I experience with house made corned beef. The two eggs over easy were cooked perfectly and the potatoes, though asked to be cooked well were not, were very good. My request, a little more corned beef hash please! All in all I would say good place for a quick decent breakfast and I would go back. If you like corned beef hash like I do and you are going here because you heard about it, I would skip it unless you are just wanting to try it just to say that you tried it.

Soon to be a favorite. The food here is delicious, the staff is friendly, and they are dog friendly. I had a 1/2 corned beef sandwich. It was piled high, hot and filling. All for only $6 after tax. The chairs outside are comfortable and shady. Also, the place is cleaned frequently, as evidenced by the spotless interior and the checklists. All in all an awesome place to eat in downtown St. Petersburg.

Fantastic service and the bakery always had fresh and delicious treats. Every time I visit I get the openface sandwich because it is just to die for. The cheese cakes that you also get with your meal are also so good. But, I'm always so full after I eat I have to wrap it up and take it home, Ha ha ha not that I mind. The bakery also has so many varied kinds of desserts that I could never have the same thing twice. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area or even friends were visiting the area. Very nice family style restaurant, and not too expensive.

There are certain things you would expect to see on the menu at a NY style Deli, corned beef sandwiches, maybe a salad, soup, maybe some eggs Benedict or an omelette what I wasn't expecting to see was Chicken & Waffles. I've been to Roscoe's in LA and I've been to Glady's & Ronnies in Atlanta and these were as good or better than both of them. It made my weekend to have these, the only downside was they didn't have wet naps (when you put maple syrup on fried chicken you tend to get sticky) but the server made some and they worked. If you've never had chicken & waffles you need to get down here while the weather is nice and get some, you will thank me later.

I'm completely shocked that this amazing restaurant had only 3 stars. My gf and I are visiting St. Petersburg and we decided to give this place a try last night (prior to checking Yelp reviews) and our meal (the skyscraper sandwich and turkey wrap) were both absolutely AMAZING! The meal was so good i fact, that we decided to come back for breakfast. I love this place and wish there was one in Miami.

Excellent food, great for lunch, but quite the rip off. $1.98 for a 12oz cream soda. Come on. That's beyond ripoff, that's robbing your patrons without a gun. I can see why they're not full service as their counter service was gruff and didn't appear to want to be there, I don't blame them, but for $20 for lunch at least fake a smile. Food was tasty, fresh and will bring me back in. Bathroom was disgusting, and really needed a thorough cleaning. I go back to the counter to advise that it needed refreshing and I was apparently ignored, as I returned to the counter for another order 15-minutes later and another patron complained about the same issues.

Not affiliated with the awesome restaurant "THE lucky Dill" in Palm Harbor. We weren't very smart and just assumed that these were the same restaurant, well you know what happens when you assume something!!! Skip this place, over prices for counter service and the food isn't very good either. The Cuban was just ok and our other sandwich was greasy and the meat was fatty. Check out the awesome The Lucky Dill in Palm Harbor the next time you are over that way!

When we come to St Pete, we have a couple of places that are our usual stops for lunch, but we decided we wanted to try something different. We wandered the streets a bit before deciding to try this place. My husband asked how much meat they put on the half sandwich, and the two employees at the counter both assured us that it was a lot of meat. We decided to each get the half sandwich (pastrami) with the cup of soup. My husband got the chili, and I got the pastrami and white bean stew. When the food came out, the bread was loaded up with shriveled meat with loads of fat on it (we hate fat!). I saw that they'd given me marble rye instead of the wheat I ordered, so I went back to the counter to request the right bread. One of the cooks was out front, and when the employee told him I wanted wheat bread, he shook his head as if I were ridiculous for wanting what I ordered. When I returned to my seat to eat my sandwich, the bread started crumbling and falling onto the plate the minute I picked up my sandwich. My husband ended up eating his sandwich with a fork since his bread had the same issue. The stew that I got, contrary to its name, contained NO white beans as far as I could tell. I kept dipping my spoon in searching for them to no avail. On top of that, it had a gross flavor to it (the employee behind the counter had told me it was "so good", which was why I tried it). My husband's chili was edible. The only really redeemable thing about this place is that their iced tea is nice and strong the way we like it, which was nice since most places have trouble with weak tea. That's really the only reason I can think of to give this place two stars instead of one.

I'm not a big fan of restaurants that make you order at a counter, but we had a good experience. My wife and I were in St. Pete for a concert the night before and came here for breakfast. The food was great, the person that bought our food out was very friendly and helpful, and the prices were reasonable. My wife wasn't impressed with the coffee, but I loved the outdoor seating on the sidewalk. I would stop in here again of I'm in the area and in need of a quick bite to eat.

This place is a solid 3-star. We came across this place after the Saturday Morning Market. Both my husband and I being from NY, we could not resist going in. They have basic breakfast types of meal, sandwiches including cubans and NY deli stacked sandwiches, wraps and burgers. I ordered avocado omlet with fries and English muffin. My husband ordered turkey cuban sandwich. Eveything was okay and average. I liked the sauce came with the turkey cuban sandwich! You could use the sauce for pretty much anything. I went into this place knowing what yelpers were saying to find out that you folks are absolutely right.

I ordered a full chicken salad sandwich to go. After paying $7.25 I only received 1/2 a sandwich in the container and the sandwich was not that good. Been there twice and very disappointed in the cost and portions of their more healthy options. I had a ceasar chicken wrap the day before and it was a wrap with lettuce and a few pieces of chicken. I walked away hungery that day as well. I'd avoid this place unless you like to overpay for some pretty basic sandwiches.

My co-workers and I go to lucky dill for lunch regularly. I have found over the course of a few years that the prices have gone up fairly significantly. This place is an iconic in St. Pete. The interior looks like an old new york deli. You will find huge a large selection of deli sandwiches here along with seating both inside and on the street near central ave. I ordered the chicken fingers, fries, and a soda. My usual. The food is above average. However, for chicken fingers, i would recommend both Chic-Fil-A and PDQ over Lucky Dill. Although, that is being picky, you really do go to a place like Lucky Dill for the cool New York deli feel. Further, a deli sandwich is a much more traditional order than my personal favorite.

  • Nora K.

So sad. I really wanted to like this place because it reminds me of NYC but the quality of food, the service and the prices has nothing to do with NY. You get a plain sandwich and when I say plain I mean plain like just bread and fries for 15 bucks or more like are you kidding me and if I wanna add anything on it you gotta pay extra. At least in NY even if it's expensive you get what you pay for. A real sandwich to satisfy you. The lucky dill is just a big time rip off. I would suggest you go any where else in downtown where you will actually feel good about what you just spent your money on. I hope this place steps up and change their ways instead of just sucking on costumer's money and not giving them anything back in return. So long luck dill!

My friends, husband and I ordered 60.00 worth of food togo from the Lucky Dill. I wasn't going to bother calling to complain about the fact that both the fries and onion rings were soggy (despite us having asked them to cook them crunchy specifically to avoid that happening), neither of the 2 burgers had the extra cheese that we asked for and we also didn't get the sides of ranch that we requested. I wasn't going to bother calling about all those things being wrong on our 60.00 worth of food. I ate the Ruben which was definitely not great, I voiced my opinion and my husband agreed. About an hour and a half later I was in the bathroom with cramps, feeling flushed, and I'll spare you the rest of the details. I called the restaurant to let them know what had happened explaining that the Reuben and the Greek salad from there were the only things I had eaten that day and I wasn't having any flu symptoms etc and so I thought they should check the potato salad/kraut/corned beef to make sure no one else was ill. I waited on hold for several minutes when I asked to speak to a manager. She then put me on hold to look for the owner who apparently had "just stepped out". I am a veteran waitress/bartender and I am familiar with these kinds of tactics that owners and managers use to avoid an unhappy customer. But maybe he/she had genuinely stepped out. The manager asked me for my phone number and I said it wasn't necessary i just wanted to make sure that they knew the issue. She then asked me for it again saying that she would have the owner call me back, perhaps they would get me lunch etc. I explained that I wasn't interested in free food but would appreciate a phone call. I was hoping to speak to the owner and explain the situation myself and as someone who has worked in the restaurant industry I felt like they could use some constructive criticism. I never received a call. As I said I have worked in the industry for years and my parents owned a restaurant too. While I don't think there is ever a circumstance under which food should be served that makes someone ill I understand that it can happen. I am absolutely furious however that after leaving my phone number the owner never called to apologize. There were numerous problems with my order on top of the fact that the food made me ill and I don't know if the manager didn't deliver the message or if the owner simply doesn't care to call back dissatisfied customers but either way I am livid. I will never be back and I will tell everyone I know about my experience. As a competent and caring waitress and bartender I would never treat a customer so poorly. If this is the kind of consideration he/she/they give their customers its no surprise that the food coming from the kitchen made me sick.

This is part off my post church routine. I walk here after church for lunch then to Kahwa for some coffee. It's really very good I usually get the Ruben with some onion rings the service is fast and the people are friendly. There's a great outdoor seating area if it's not too hot. The prices might be a little on the high side but well worth it in my opinion. It's down town so . . parking. . yeah but if you're parked and walking about it's a great place to stop in for a sandwich.

Went here for a late morning breakfast. Two occupied tables outside and maybe three inside. Since there are no breakfast items displayed above the counter, I asked if I needed a menu. Got one and stood in front of the cashier perusing it. Ordered the Cuban Platter, something I know well, plus a small decaf. They give you a cup, which you fill yourself for $1.98. You get a number sign for your table, and they bring it when ready. Don't understand this, as I get two small slices of bare toast, a portion of scrambled eggs and a small bowl containing a cheese grits concoction. Why this is called a Cuban platter is beyond me, have never seen this before. You do get a free coffee refill, and drop tips into a little bucket on the counter. At nearly $6 before tip I'm not overly impressed. Outdoor seating is right at the busy noisy corner. Inside people trooping up and down the stairs also noisy, not sure what's above. Cashier not overly friendly at first, yet did say thank you when leaving. Nice clean interior with music playing. The Lucky Dill has been an enduring downtown fixture for many years, now offering Sunday brunch.

My husband and I ate here before going to all the lovely museums in downtown St. Pete. I was feeling finicky so we decided the safest way was via deli. I saw New York and the Large portions coming out and thought we had a winner. My husband really enjoyed his pastrami sandwich BUT my order was yucko! I order a classic Greek salad. the feta was not overloaded but as I began to much I found that there was a scoop wad of potato salad at the bottom of my bowl hidden under the lettuce. It was a n unpleasant surprise. I didn't order potato salad. I really wanted to give this place a good rate.

It is fantastic for sandwiches and the potato salad was excellent! I agree with everyone else I got the turkey ham and swiss - the turkey, its fantastic and about an inch and a half of ham on a Kaiser - potato salad was just plain yum.. my tab to go was about 14$ So if I went home and bought the same items time and cost to purchase everything and then make it hmmm is my time worth $14.00? Yup me thinks so ... was a nice break for lunch always busy - sandwiches are made quite quickly and they do have a 1/2 sandwich with soup or salad special as well I guess it depends how hungry you are - today I was hungry and it definitely fit the build! It is really good!

Not impressed. Ordered roast beef deluxe w cheese, cole slaw, and pasta salad.the slaw was more dressing than cabbage. the roast beef was tender but wasn't very rare and tasted old.the sandwich came w lettuce and tom on the side and no onion(which I ordered) and a very thin slice of cheese).all the condiments on the table were low.the table was wobbly and dusty as were the chairs.i was with my two young children so getting up to complain was not in the cards for me so I thought I would vent here now that I have some time.

Used to be a great place years ago, but went there yesterday and won't go back. Paid $5 for a half corned beef sandwich. If I wanted tomato it would have been .50 extra--what a rip off. They used to give oumcole slaw or potato salad with every sandwich order but not anymore. The sandwich was very skimpy--hardly any meat. Don't bother with this place--it's just not worth it!

I gave it three stars because the turkey sandwich I had was great. Unfortunately, the reason I ordered from there, the Matzo Ball Soup, was not. The picture on the website ( doorstepdelivery.com ) showed a big bowl of soup with 3 matzo balls. For $3.99 it seemed like a great deal and I'd have leftovers for dinner. What arrived was a tiny cup of soup with 1 matzo ball. It was bland and mushy. The pictures I've seen of their soup it has carrots and seasoning in the broth but that was not the case with what I received. It was almost watery looking, barely the color of chicken broth and not a carrot in sight. I grew up eating at some great deli's so I know good Matzo Ball soup. In fact, the boxed stuff is better than this. The turkey sandwich was tasty though it was amazing to me that I had to pay $.79 extra for lettuce and tomato. Insane! I probably won't order from there again.

When I first moved to St Pete 8 years ago I loved Lucky Dill! It was one of my favorite places. Fast forward to 2012/2013 & I don't know what happened to this place! I have eaten here twice recently & I now give up. Their menu has completely changed. They used to have a huge selection with so many choices it was always hard to decide what to get in a good way. Now it seems like they have a very small selection & it's hard to decide what to get in a bad way. Their prices are outrageous! They've always been pricey but the food was delicious & the portions were huge so it was justifiable. Now not so much. Last time I visited I had the Club sandwich. It was no different than a club sandwich you'd get at a TGIF but double the price! The service was horrible. I had to wait 45 minutes for my sandwich & I was one of the first people there on a lunch day. I don't know if they just forgot my sandwich but there was no apology or anything. This time my husband wanted to go & I reluctantly went based on my last experience. This time I got the Italian hoagie. Although the meat was good it was not any better than a sub you'd get from Publix for half the price. For two sandwiches with cups of water & no sides we spent almost $20! Totally not worth it... Eat elsewhere!

Ok. So had a late lunch there the other day. Not super impressed. Ordered a Rachel at the counter when the girl brought it over she was like who had the rueben . Starving and ready to eat I dug in, to my dismay it was the fattiest chewiest Pastrami I had had in.years. as I was hungry I ate it anyway. Maybe I am spoiled having worked at one of the best delis in so Fla, yes Pastrami Club, giving you a shout out. So from now on I will stick with the Nova platters and breakfast at the lucky dill. .happy deli to all!

If they're trying to be the king of "eh" they succeeded. I have passed by this place many times, but was finally in the mood for a sandwich when I was downtown...let's try it out. Ordered a turkey sandwich, no bacon or anything fancy, on a kaiser and a Cuban. Also got 2 drinks and a bag of chips. $20+ dollars....really? I thought to myself..."this better be a damn good sandwich." "Tom, this isn't Subway" I kept telling myself...ok, ok. My overall response was lackluster. The sandwiches were exactly as they are presented, no more/no less. The unsweet iced tea I got myself sucked by the way; but I know by getting it that it's hit or miss. The turkey sandwich was turkey...usual fixins...on a kaiser roll. And the cuban was tasty but I can just imagine how my arteries were doing after I ate it cause the bread was slathered in butter before being pressed. I'll admit, it was good...but not the best I've had. Maybe I'm tough to please, but a place that calls itself a deli, doesn't overload on the meats, and by my standards, over-charges during lunch just isn't getting any more than 3 stars out of me. I've had much better in NY for a lot less and to be honest, I'd rather go to the Publix deli.

I came here on NYE to get some food in between bands playing at the State Theater. I have to say that the tuna sandwich was one of the best I've ever had which makes all of the reviews shocking to me. I hope this place isn't going downhill because I absolutely LOVED that sandwich.

Pretty good joint with good sandwiches and service, but nothing exceptional. The service wasn't the most hospitable and the prices weren't exactly cheap. I'll probably seek-out other places in downtown St. Pete to try out.

HUGELY overpriced. it is good food i had a turkey bacon sandwich and i added avocado and it was delicious but it was 7$ with out any side and my boyfriend's small wrap was also 7 or 8$ the service was ok they even brought water for my dog but you have to order in side to be served over all if they lowered the prices, they could have a very good business going

The food is outrageously expensive. The portions are enormous, yes, but with the prices constantly going up every month and the menu changing every other week, I decided it isn't worth the price.

    (1)
  • Jim P.

Pretty average overall but probably not fair to judge on just one visit. I never had a Greek Salad on a bed of potato salad and with beets instead of cucumbers. The help had a fairly sullen attitude overall. We won't be back but may be worth somone else giving it a try, we didn't have any of the sandwiches so maybe they're better in a true New York style. And maybe the sullen attitude of the workers is what is -- after all I've never been to a REAL New York deli, so who knows, maybe that's part of the experience.

  • Wyllol W.

I had breakfast there and it was decent and reasonably priced so I decided to get a sand which and salad to go. When I got back to my hotel I discovered that they didn't give me condiments of my sandwich or dressing for my salad.

Not that I'm a frequent visitor, maybe only three times in the last couple of years but it doesn't quite hold up to the new (1 year old) building in Palm Harbor. Apart from the name and the menu listings there is little I see that put's the two locations under the same corporate umbrella which makes me thing they are run totally independently. That said, it's the only place I think of heading if there's a Reuben on my mind and it's downtown St. Petersburg.

The Dagwood. Although more expensive than it was when I first got it 6 years ago is still an amazing beast. All the meats, 6 inches tall, foot long, 3.5 pounds. Every bite tastes like a different sandwich. Magic for sure. My brother in law and I split it yesterday. We were so very happy until the last few bites, which were just painful to put away, but of course neither of us could back down. Afterwards, digestion won and i fell asleep at the rays game. How one person could beat the challenge of the whole thing alone in 30 mins i dont know. My suggestion is 4 people should split it, which would also help with the $20 price tag. Though, I'd still pay that even if i ordered it by myself and saved part for later. oh yeah and happy hour half price beer 4 - 7 to wash it down.

One visit may not be a correct barometer of a restaurant's overall performance, but I was so underwhelmed by the Dill Deli, that there probably will not be any other visits. Fair or not, I judge a deli by their pastrami. Period. If the pastrami ain't any good, chances are the other stuff isn't either. I also know that pastrami by its nature can be a bit fatty, but this went beyond a nice marbling. The meat was tough and riddled with way too much fat. Then there's the price. $7.25. Sandwich only. No fries, no chips, no drink. Really? C'mon, I know this is a downtown location that probably has a high overhead, but give me a little more value! I have no qualms about forking over the coin if I'm getting either a unique dining experience or exceptional quality, but this was neither. They have a large menu and advertise themselves as "NY Style". I'm beginning to think that NY style means over-rated, over-priced, and under-delivered. Sorry, Dill. I thought you might be "the one" for my deli jones, but you turned out to be just another one-night stand.

Not bad, but for the price would like full service, and some chips, one of the more expensive sandwich shops I've been to. Food was good, but not that good.

Best burger I've had in St. Pete, hands down. I always get a blue cheese, mushroom, and bacon burger, something that they used to have on the menu but recently took off (doesn't stop me from ordering it). It's nice to sit outside on central, drink a beer and enjoy your food (as long as a bum doesn't ask you for money, which is simply something you have to deal with in St. Pete) You can't go wrong with Lucky Dill!

    (4)
  • Kiki T.

Giving it 3 stars because it's exactly average. Food was fine (although a smidge pricey for what you got- perhaps that's because New York part of this NY deli) but not particularly memorable. The staff was a bit standoffish and not too interested in answering questions about the menu. The outside seating area was nice but nothing that every other downtown St Pete eatery doesn't offer. You won't be disappointed but you probably won't find yourself craving another visit.

    (3)
  • Danielle Z.

This place was awful. Do NOT confuse it with the one in Tarpon, which is amazing or you will be disappointed. The menu is extremely limited, the help is grouchy and the Matzo Ball Soup is bland and mushy without a smidge of anything in it but the matzo balls and broth. With an order of soup and a pastrami sandwich, having said please don't heat the sandwich they still managed to screw up the order. I'd say it was "overrated" but what I see on here lets me know my rating is about on par.

Its a very laid back deli style restaurant where you order at the counter and the staff will bring your food once its ready. Wide variety of food to pick from and so far every time I go everything has tasted fresh and has exceeded my deli expectations serve breakfast all day and also have a wide variety of sandwiches, burgers and salads to choose form. Best meal I had their so far was their brie grilled cheese, I add avocado to it and its absolutely delicious :)

Always good. There's not much more to say. I'm never disappointed when I eat here. I work around the corner, and I always go there when I "forget" to pack myself a lunch.

How is this place still open? The name is the same as the one in Palm Harbor..but the two sites are worlds apart. The Saint Pete location smells like smoke inside..so if you choose to subject yourself to this mediocre food, sitting outside is a good option. Order inside and your food is brought out to you. Ask for a napkin and you are told they are inside. Leave a tip..not so much. What Deli do you know that does not carry Challah bread? We won't be going here again. Ever.

    (4)
  • Jen M.

Ever.

Very New York style. The meat was very fresh and almost sweet tasting in the ham & turkey club I ordered. Prices aren't bad either. I almost couldn't get the sandwich into mouth. This is a great lunch stop and they don't take long to get your order out.
